A Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officer was on Saturday transferred after a Jain temple in Vile Parle area of Mumbai was demolished by the civic body, a senior official said.
Assistant Municipal Commissioner of K-East Ward, Navnath Ghadge was transferred following the community outrage over the demolition of a Jain temple, he said.
The members of the Jain community on Saturday held a protest march demanding strict action against the officer involved in the recent demolition.
The protest was held against the BMC, calling the demolition unjust.
BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani confirmed that Ghadge has been relieved of his duties at K-East Ward. The civic body has not yet announced his replacement.
The BMC had reportedly demolished the temple stating that it was unauthorised.
The demolition drew sharp criticism from members of the Jain community who have described the action as unwarranted.
The temple was located within the Neminath Cooperative Housing Society in Kambliwadi area of Vile Parle and its demolition took place on Wednesday.
