Anaswara Rajan slams Malayalam reportage for twisting context of her statement

Actress Anaswara Rajan is currently gearing up for the release of her Tamil film With Love. A well-known and established name in Malayalam cinema, the actress has also been steadily finding her footing in the Tamil industry. During the promotions of her upcoming film, Anaswara made a comment in jest that was taken and reported out of context in a serious manner. The actress later took to social media to express her disappointment over the reportage, stating that a single line from a larger conversation was blown out of proportion without context.

Anaswara`s playful take

Recently, during an interview with Cinema Vikatan, Anaswara revealed that she acted “dumb” while working with her co-star Abishan in order to break the ice between them. Before Anaswara made the comment, Abishan had mentioned that he was initially hesitant to approach her as he perceived her to be a big star. Responding to this, Anaswara jokingly said she acted “dumb” to be on the same level as him. Abishan, in turn, humorously referred to it as “dumbest behaviour” and joked that he would explain the details off camera. However, Anaswara’s comment was picked up by headlines and soon went viral, with one such headline giving the remark a serious spin.

Anaswara calls out misreporting

Calling out the reportage, Anaswara wrote, “I really have to hand it to whoever put this together. It must’ve taken a lot of patience to sit through a full 20-minute Tamil interview filled with light conversations and shared laughter, find a single line that was said jokingly while everyone laughed, and then present it as some ‘serious statement.’ That’s not reporting—that’s cherry-picking, twisting context, and creating negativity where none existed. Blowing a joke out of proportion doesn’t make you sharp; it makes you desperate for attention.”

The actress further explained that such headlines are designed to provoke reactions. “Recently, I’ve made it a rule not to react to drama or engage with nonsense. I try not to give it the spotlight it craves. But when people try to make me out to be someone I’m not, that’s where I draw the line. So yes, I had to speak up this time.”

Meanwhile, With Love, starring Anaswara Rajan and Abishan, is set to release in theatres on February 6. The film also marks the acting debut of Abishan, who previously directed the hit Tamil film Tourist Family.
