Mumbai records an AQI of 73; city air mostly in `satisfactory` range

Mumbai and its suburbs are expected to witness mainly clear skies, with temperatures likely to range between 27 degrees Celsius and 33 degrees Celsius, leading to warm conditions through the day.

According to the Centre’s SAMEER app, the city recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 73 at 10 am, placing it in the ‘satisfactory’ category, indicating that air quality is generally acceptable for most people.

However, air quality varied across different parts of the city. Sion recorded the highest AQI at 156, followed by Deonar at 105, with both locations falling under the ‘moderate’ category, reflecting relatively higher pollution levels in these areas.

Several other locations reported better air quality. Areas such as Bandra-Kurla Complex (74), Byculla (65), Chakala (86), Ghatkopar (72), Bandra East (69), Mazgaon (61), and Navy Nagar (83) remained within the satisfactory range.

Meanwhile, Malad West (43) and Mulund West (18) recorded the lowest AQI levels, placing them in the ‘good’ category and indicating cleaner air compared to most other parts of the city.

Overall, while Mumbai’s air quality remains largely satisfactory, the variation across regions highlights uneven pollution levels, with certain pockets experiencing higher concentrations. Residents, especially those with respiratory conditions, may need to take precautions in areas where AQI levels are elevated.

Rain brings respite from scorching conditions in city

Rain and thunderstorm hit Delhi early Wednesday, bringing respite from the searing heat conditions.

The minimum temperature settled below the season`s normal with station-wise data showing that Safdarjung logged a minimum of 20.4 degrees Celsius, 3.4 degrees Celsius below normal, while Palam logged 20 degrees Celsius, 4.9 degrees Celsius below normal.

The city recorded its first “warm night” conditions of the year on Monday night.

Warm night conditions are declared when the maximum temperature is 40 degrees Celsius or above and the minimum temperature remains 4.5 degrees Celsius to 6.4 degrees Celsius above normal, IMD said.

The India Meteorological Department issued a `yellow` alert and forecasted thunderstorm with rain.

The weather department has forecast thunderstorm activity accompanied by rain till April 30.

The maximum temperature on Wednesday is expected to hover around 38 degrees Celsius.

Weather experts have attributed the sudden change in conditions to a cyclonic circulation over adjoining areas of Delhi.

Delhi`s air quality was recorded in the `poor` category, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 245.
