The participation of teachers in the ongoing strike by the Government and Semi-Government Employees, Teachers and Non-Teaching Staff Coordination Committee, Maharashtra, has increased significantly, even as the state government remains unresponsive. 

The strike is set to continue into its fourth day tomorrow, on April 24.

Talks held with Chief Secretary, no concrete decision: Committee

A meeting chaired by Maharashtra Chief Secretary Rajesh Agrawal was held on April 22, 2026, to discuss 18 pending demands. 

“While the government expressed sympathy over the issues, it showed reluctance in taking any concrete decisions,” a statement by the committee said.

“No firm decision was taken regarding the implementation of the revised pension scheme. Representatives of the unions have raised concerns over whether any meaningful outcome will be achieved without an official meeting at the Chief Minister’s level,” the statement further added.

Employees pin hope on Chief Minister

The coordination committee stated that lakhs of employees and teachers across Maharashtra believe that only Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis can resolve the issue and find a way forward amid the ongoing agitation.

Strike intensifies after months of protest

The committee said that for the past 15 months, employees had been staging peaceful protests and seeking a fair resolution from the government. However, alleging continued neglect, they said the current strike has intensified.

Over the past three days, employees have been demanding justice through the strike and have vowed to continue the agitation until their demands are fully met. This was reiterated during a virtual meeting of the committee’s steering group.

Protest marches planned across districts

The strike will continue on its fourth day, April 24, with protest marches planned in every district. Demonstrators are expected to escalate their agitation against the government, the statement said.
