​Mumbai: 55-yr-old worker dies after marble slabs fall at Sion construction site 

A 55-year-old carpenter died on Friday evening after sustaining severe injuries at a redevelopment site in Sion. The deceased, identified as Kalim Shaikh, was working at TransIndia’s ongoing project in CGS Colony, GTB Nagar, when the incident occurred.

Marble slabs collapse inside sales office

According to preliminary information, Shaikh was inside the site’s sales office at the time of the accident when a stack of marble slabs reportedly toppled over, trapping him underneath. Co-workers rushed to his aid and immediately transported him to Sion Hospital for emergency treatment.

Succumbs to critical head and spine injuries

Despite efforts by doctors, Shaikh succumbed to his injuries later in the evening. Hospital authorities stated that he had suffered critical trauma to his head and spine, which proved fatal during treatment.

Probe underway; post-mortem pending

Police officials said that further details regarding the exact sequence of events are under investigation. A post-mortem examination is yet to be conducted to determine the precise cause of death. Meanwhile, legal formalities have been initiated at Antop Hill Police Station.
