Hollywood star Anne Hathaway opened up about the first thoughts she had after she read the script of The Devil Wears Prada 2. Hathaway is all set to reprise her iconic role of Andy (Andrea Sachs) after 20 years and she is joined by the power house Meryl Streep. The film also brings back the OGs — Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci. The duo was in Tokyo on Monday, April 6, for a grand fan event and spoke about The Devil Wears Prada 2. Interacting with fans on stage, Hathaway shared her thoughts on the film`s script and reuniting with Streep on the big screen after two decades.
Anne Hathaway`s reaction to The Devil Wears Prada 2
“My first thought was `Did Meryl read it yet? What did she think?` And then I heard yes, Meryl did read it and she loved it. Well this has to be amazing. And I read it and it was beyond what I hoped for. I think over the years we`ve all wondered what Miranda, Andy, Emily and Nigel were up to and I guarantee you, anything we thought of did not come close to what (writer) Aline Brosh McKenna has come up with for all of us. And it was a joy to make it,” Hathaway said. Watch the video below:

About The Devil Wears Prada 2
The Hollywood drama The Devil Wears Prada 2 is an upcoming sequel to the 2006 film, with an official trailer released ahead of its planned May 1, 2026 theatrical debut. Directed by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna, the film brings back original cast members including Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt. The film also introduces an all-new runway of characters including Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Helen J. Shen, Pauline Chalamet, B.J. Novak and Conrad Ricamora. Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman also reprise their roles as “Lily” and “Irv” from the first film.
The story is set years after the original and continues within the fashion publishing industry, focusing on the evolving media landscape and the decline of traditional print magazines. The character of Miranda Priestly remains central, navigating industry changes and shifting power dynamics.
Emily Blunt’s character is depicted in a senior executive role with significant influence over advertising, creating professional conflict. The film retains the Runway magazine setting and builds on established character arcs. It is produced under Disney, which now controls the original studio’s catalogue.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is produced by Wendy Finerman, and executive produced by Michael Bederman, Karen Rosenfelt and Aline Brosh McKenna. 20th Century Studios will release The Devil Wears Prada 2 in cinemas on 1st May 2026.
