Ali Zafar apologises after backlash for wearing see-through kurta on Eid

Pakistani actor-singer Ali Zafar recently reacted to online criticism over his Eid outfit by issuing a sarcastic apology that is now going viral across social media platforms. Ali was criticised by several users online for wearing a see-through kurta without an undershirt during Eid celebrations. The Mere Brother ki Gulhan actor has now addressed the backlash in his signature witty style.

Ali Zafar issues an apology

Taking to social media, Ali Zafar wrote, “I want to apologise to the nation for wearing a kurta without an undershirt and for performing the very serious act of watering plants while dressed in a traditional ajrak and dhoti on Eid.”

Clearly laced with sarcasm, Ali`s statement acknowledged the scale of the online reaction. Zafar further joked how the matter has become “one of the most important national and global issues affecting everyone’s lives in recent days.” He further assured fans that he would make an effort not to repeat the “grave mistake” while thanking people for pointing it out. “I understand this has been one of the most pressing national and global issues affecting everyone`s lives lately, and I will do my best never to repeat this grave mistake again. Thank you for your attention to this matter,” he posted.

Ali Zafar`s career in India

Although Zafar’s official Instagram account is currently not accessible in India, screenshots of his message have been circulated and shared by fans. The Instagram and other social media accounts of Pakistani celebrities have been restricted in India. These restrictions came in the wake of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025, in which 26 innocent people were killed by Pakistani terrorists.

Despite the current situation, Ali Zafar is a familiar face to Indian audiences. He has featured in notable and popular Bollywood films. He made his Bollywood debut with Tere Bin Laden, a satirical comedy that earned him recognition. Later, he was seen in a charming role in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan alongside Imran Khan and Katrina Kaif. He was also seen in films like Chashme Baddoor, Total Siyapaa, Kill Dil, and Dear Zindagi, among others.
