Sai Pallavi to play Deepika Padukone`s character Sumati in Kalki 2 | Report

In a major development surrounding one of Indian cinema’s most anticipated sequels, reports suggest that Sai Pallavi is set to replace Deepika Padukone in Kalki 2, the follow-up to the blockbuster Kalki 2898 AD. While there has been no official confirmation from the makers yet, sources indicate that the character originally slated for Deepika has not been scrapped and will continue to remain integral to the storyline.

Deepika Padukone`s role not to be scrapped

Deepika’s reported exit from the project had sparked widespread speculation in industry circles. Earlier announcements had confirmed that she would not be returning for the sequel, leading to rumours that her character might be written out. However, insiders now maintain that the filmmakers were always keen on retaining the role, given its importance in the larger narrative arc of the ambitious mytho-sci-fi franchise.

Industry chatter suggests that Deepika’s departure may have stemmed from differences over remuneration and scheduling. Reports claim she sought a significant pay hike compared to her fee for the first instalment, along with specific work conditions. As discussions reportedly failed to reach a mutually agreeable conclusion, the actor stepped away from the sequel.

Sai Pallavi steps in shoes of Sumati

The team has since been actively looking for a suitable replacement, and Sai Pallavi’s name has emerged as the frontrunner. Known for her powerful performances and strong screen presence, Pallavi has carved a niche for herself across South Indian cinema and beyond. If the reports are accurate, her inclusion in Kalki 2 would mark a major addition to the already star-studded cast and further expand her footprint in large-scale, pan-Indian projects.

The sequel continues to generate excitement, with filming reportedly progressing steadily. The franchise features a stellar ensemble including Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan, all of whom are expected to reprise their roles.

With anticipation running high, fans are eagerly awaiting an official announcement regarding Sai Pallavi’s casting and further details about the film’s release timeline.

Earlier with the exit from Kalki, Deepika Padukone had shared a cryptic note on her social media handle. Talking about how it is essential to choose peace. She wrote, “You can`t change what happened but you can choose what happens next.”
