Dharma Productions’ Dostana 2 is one film that has undergone several major casting changes over the years, and it appears the reshuffle continues. Initially, the film went on floors with Lakshya, Kartik Aaryan and Janhvi Kapoor. However, following a reported fallout between Kartik and the makers, the project was put on the back burner.
New lead for Dostana 2
In 2025, the film was revived with two new actors, while Lakshya retained his role. Vikrant Massey came on board, marking his first collaboration with Dharma.
According to a recent report in Variety India, former Miss India Sini Shetty has been roped in to play the leading lady, marking her acting debut. She was crowned Femina Miss India World in 2022. The report states that the makers were considering three actresses before finalising Shetty. Interestingly, Priyanka Chopra, who starred in the original Dostana, is also a former Miss World.
Earlier reports had suggested that Laapataa Ladies fame Pratibha Ranta would play the lead. With the latest development, it is assumed that Ranta has been replaced by Shetty.
Vikrant Massey on Dostana 2
For the unversed, Dostana 2 was previously shelved due to creative differences between Kartik Aaryan and Karan Johar. Although the two have since reconciled, Kartik has not returned to the franchise and has been replaced by Vikrant Massey. Confirming the news, Massey told Times Now, “You will see me doing that soon. I think this news is already out. I don’t know why I’m not talking. I’m doing Dostana 2. I’m doing my first Dharma movie.”
He added that the film will present him in a completely new avatar. “In this film, you’ll see me wearing good designer clothes. Karan sir will make sure I wear stylish outfits and fancy sunglasses. We’ll be shooting somewhere in Europe,” he shared. When asked about his “Desi Girl” in the film, Massey declined to reveal details.
