The Tardeo-Nagpada flyover, connecting Mumbai Central railway station with Tardeo and Nagpada, will be inaugurated on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 11 am by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, an official statement issued by the BMC said.
The ceremony will also be attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar, and presided over by Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced.
The flyover will allow traffic to move in both directions, providing a smooth east-west connection for commuters in South Mumbai.
Several state and local officials will attend the ceremony, including –
– Ashish Shelar, Minister for IT and Cultural Affairs and Guardian Minister of Mumbai Suburban
– Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Minister for Skill, Employment and Innovation and Co-Guardian Minister of Mumbai Suburban
– Local MPs and MLAs, including Arvind Sawant, Amin Patel, Sunil Shinde, and Rajhans Singh
– Deputy Mayor Sanjay Ghadhi and BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani
Record completion time
The flyover was completed in just 15 months and 6 days, under the leadership of BMC Additional Commissioner (Projects) Abhijeet Bangar. Work began on 1 October 2024, though the work order was issued in September 2024, and was initially scheduled to take four more months.
BMC engineers coordinated with the Railway Department, Ward Offices, and Traffic Police to complete key works such as Girder bracing, deck sheet construction, slab casting and approach roads on both sides.
The flyover was built ahead of schedule despite challenges including relocation of utilities, moving residential structures, boundary wall removals, and court cases. Safety certificates, load tests, and railway NOCs have been obtained, making the flyover ready for public use.
Flyover design
The new flyover design includes total length of 333 metres (138.39 m east, 157.39 m west, 36.9 m within railway limits), carriageway width of 7 metres and footpaths on both sides, adequate for pedestrians.
Benefits for Mumbai commuters
The new flyover will have re-establish east-west traffic connectivity disrupted for two years and reduce congestion on roads including Jahangir Boman Behram Marg and Dr Dadasaheb Bhadkamkar Marg, Pathe Bapurao Marg, and near Mahalaxmi station bridge.
The officials said that it will provide safer and faster commuting options for Mumbai residents.
