BTS reacts to ARIRANG trying for Grammys: `Don`t want to be desperate`

As anticipation builds for BTS’s return with their first full group album in years, questions about whether the band plans to chase Grammy glory once again have resurfaced. In a recent conversation with GQ, leader RM offered a candid take on the group’s evolving relationship with the Grammy Awards. While BTS may consider submitting their upcoming album Arirang for consideration, RM made it clear that the group is no longer driven by desperation for the trophy.

BTS members refect on submitting ARIRANG to Grammys

Reflecting on the increasing global recognition of Korean artists, RM applauded fellow K pop acts who have recently received Grammy nods. “I want to send big applause for them,” he said, acknowledging the progress K pop has made on international platforms. However, he emphasized that BTS does not want to appear overly eager for validation. “Maybe we’ll submit our album to the Grammys again, but I don’t know. We don’t want to be desperately eager for it. We don’t want to say anymore like, ‘Ah, man, we want the Grammys,’” he shared honestly.

The shift in tone marks a noticeable change from earlier years when BTS openly expressed their hopes of winning. The group previously earned nominations for global hits like Dynamite and Butter, as well as their collaboration My Universe with Coldplay. Despite the historic nominations, they did not secure a win, a reality that sparked disappointment among fans but also seemed to reshape the group’s outlook.

After completing their mandatory military service and preparing for a full group comeback, BTS appears focused on something more meaningful than awards. RM stressed that reconnecting with their global fanbase, known as ARMY, is their true priority. “Now, the most important thing is just that we are here back together again, we’re going to see the fans all over the world,” he said.

With ARIRANG on the horizon and a new chapter beginning, BTS seems determined to center their journey around music and fans rather than trophies, choosing fulfillment over fierce ambition. The members are set to even bring ARIRANG to the movie theatres for the fans to enjoy the band`s grand comeback.
