“The death of passengers after falling from a suburban train traveling from Kasara to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus on the Central Railway is deeply painful,” said Pawar.
He stressed that the tragedy highlights long-standing concerns about overcrowding and passenger safety on Mumbai’s lifeline suburban rail network.

The tragic accident occurred around 9:20 a.m. this morning on the fast track between Mumbra and Diva stations when approximately 10 passengers fell from a fast local train.
According to officials from the Thane Municipal Corporation, the passengers were traveling on the Kasara-CSMT (08:19) fast local train when the mishap occurred. Preliminary reports suggest that passengers hanging on the footboards of two fast-moving trains — one heading towards Kasara and the other towards CSMT — collided, causing several individuals to fall onto the tracks.
One person was declared dead at the scene, while nine others were rushed to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa for urgent medical treatment. Doctors are providing emergency care to the injured.
Dr. Swapnil Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, confirmed the incident, stating, “Eight people traveling onboard a local train between Mumbra and Diva stations fell down. The incident occurred on the Kalyan-bound fast line. Preliminary information indicates that passengers hanging out of the footboards of Kasara and CSMT trains collided, leading to the fall. The incident was reported by the guard of the Kasara-bound local train.”
