
Areas of Grant Road, Kemps Corner and the busy Mahalaxmi junction in the Island city, parts of Malad and Borivli in the western suburbs, and Bhandup and Ghatkopar in the eastern suburbs reported waterlogging on Saturday afternoon, as Mumbai reported moderate to heavy spells of rain. Waterlogging at the Mahalaxmi junction near Haji Ali in Worli affected traffic movements in the area. The Mumbai Traffic Police issued a statement on social media to inform commuters from the area about slow moving traffic.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a red alert for the city on Saturday afternoon, with thunderstorms and lightning. According to information from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the Colaba observatory recorded 33.4 mm of rainfall, while the Santacruz observatory recorded 0.5 mm of rainfall between 8 am and 5 pm. IMD has also indicated light to moderate showers across the city over the next week.
While no injuries were reported across Mumbai, seven instances of short circuit were reported, of which four were reported in the island city, two in the eastern suburbs, and 1 in the western suburbs. Five incidents of tree falling were reported in the city, of which four were reported from the western suburbs, and one from the island city.
The highest amount of rainfall was recorded in the Worli and Haji Ali area, at 67 mm between 8 am and 3 pm on Saturday, followed by the Mumbai Central area at 59 mm, Byculla at 53 mm, Mankhurd at 53 mm, and Borivli at 40 mm.
