Saif Ali Khan to play blind man in Priyadarshan`s next film

Saif Ali Khan is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming heist film `Jewel Thief`. During the film’s promotions, the actor confirmed that he has signed a new project with acclaimed filmmaker Priyadarshan, where he will be portraying the role of a blind man. Known for remaking several Malayalam films in Hindi, Priyadarshan’s next project is also speculated to be a remake.

Saif Ali Khan confirms collab with Priyadarshan

Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Saif Ali Khan confirmed the collaboration, saying, “Yes, I am doing a film with Priyadarshan next. I play a blind guy. Very exciting.”

Meanwhile, Priyadarshan has expressed his desire to work with Saif for a long time and was waiting for the right script to approach him with.

About Oppam

Although there has been no official confirmation, strong speculation suggests that the upcoming Saif-Priyadarshan project will be a Hindi remake of the Mohanlal-starrer Oppam. Directed by Priyadarshan himself, Oppam was reportedly inspired by the Korean film Blind and Martin Scorsese’s Cape Fear.

In Oppam, Mohanlal plays a blind man with heightened senses of smell, touch, and hearing. He works as a lift operator and caretaker in an apartment complex in Kochi. Deeply loyal to a retired Supreme Court Chief Justice who lives in the building, he finds himself in a dangerous situation when the judge is mysteriously murdered. It falls upon the blind man to protect the judge’s daughter, whose life is also at risk.

Priyadarshan`s Upcoming Projects

The timeline for Priyadarshan’s film with Saif Ali Khan remains unclear, as the filmmaker is currently busy with two major Hindi projects. He is presently shooting Bhoot Bangla with Akshay Kumar and has also begun filming the much-awaited comedy Hera Pheri 3 featuring the original trio—Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, and Suniel Shetty.

Interestingly, Hera Pheri 3 marks the first sequel in Priyadarshan’s filmmaking career. Speaking about the pressure surrounding the sequel, he said, “It is going to be very challenging to make the third part because there will be too many expectations. The characters have gotten older, and accordingly, people should believe… these are important things. I am taking it as a challenge. Let’s see how it works.”
