KDMC ramps up monsoon safety measures with streetlight pole replacement drive

As monsoon preparedness gathers pace across the city, the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has identified and begun replacing 268 old and hazardous streetlight poles across its jurisdiction.

According to KDMC’s electricity department, the civic body currently maintains 33,570 streetlight poles and 44,907 light fittings across the city.

Ahead of the monsoon, the department conducted inspections and technical audits across 20 civic divisions in February. During the inspection, officials found 268 poles to be damaged, rusted, old, and potentially dangerous, prompting immediate replacement work.

Repair and inspection work underway

Officials said that 148 faulty fitting brackets and 12 distribution control panels have been identified for replacement. Repair and inspection work of electrical and wiring systems is also underway to ensure uninterrupted and safe operations during the rainy season.

Following directions from the municipal commissioner, inspections of civic buildings, hospitals, and urban health centers were also carried out to check for loose or unsafe electrical fittings. Necessary repairs have since been undertaken.

Executive Engineer (Electricity) Jitendra B. Shinde stated that preventive measures are being implemented to avoid any electricity-related accidents during the upcoming rainy season.
