Jaaved Jaaferi on He-Man: ‘My kids and I used to watch the cartoon on TV’

Fans of He-Man are eagerly awaiting the newest on-screen chapter, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. That includes actor Jaaved Jaaferi and his son Meezaan. Even as they are part of the Nicholas Galitzine-starrer’s Hindi version — with the senior actor lending his voice to the antagonist Skeletor, and Meezaan, to He-Man — they consider themselves fans first, and artistes later.

A still from the film

Stepping into the world of the popular superhero is a personal win for Jaaferi senior, who used to watch the cartoon with his kids. He recalled, “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe was a huge part of pop culture in the early 1990s. My kids and I used to watch the cartoon on TV.”

Voicing Skeletor, played by Jared Leto, has been a “surreal” experience for him. “Skeletor was such an iconic villain — wicked, dramatic, and unforgettable. After all these years, getting the opportunity to lend my voice to Skeletor feels nostalgic and surreal.”

Being part of the voice cast was a walk down memory lane for Meezaan too, who shared, “He-Man was a huge part of my childhood. I remember being glued to the television and getting transported into the world of Eternia.”
