The Public Health Department of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) on Monday conducted a coordinated mock drill/rehearsal simulating a drowning incident at Kopri Visarjan Ghat on Mith Bunder Road in Kopri (East). The security drill by the civic body aimed at testing emergency response preparedness and inter-agency coordination.

According to an official statement from the TMC, the Disaster Management Cell conducted the drill at around 4:00 pm.

During the drill, the officials received a call at around 4:00 pm from the Kopri Police Station regarding a simulated incident involving a person drowning in the creek at the ghat area.

The drill was carried out under the supervision of Disaster Management officials, including Hon. Disaster Management Officer Mr Tadvi, Divisional Fire Officer Mr Bondve, and Police Inspector Mr Kerkar. Personnel from the police force, disaster management teams, the Thane Disaster Response Force (TDRF), fire services, and the anti-encroachment department participated in the exercise.

Resources deployed during the mock operation included a utility vehicle from the Disaster Management Cell, a TDRF bus and tempo, an ambulance from the municipal corporation, and a fire tender from the fire department. The coordinated response simulated real-time rescue and emergency medical support procedures.

Drill concluded in 55 minutes

As per the officials, the drill was conducted at Mith Bunder Road, Kopri Visarjan Ghat, and was successfully concluded at approximately 04:55 pm.

Officials, while briefing about the drill, stated that the objective of the exercise was to evaluate response time, inter-departmental coordination, and on-ground efficiency in handling water-related emergencies, particularly in high-risk zones such as immersion ghats.

Officials from the Thane Municipal Department (TMC) further highlighted that the mock drill concluded smoothly without any actual casualties or injuries, and the findings will be used to further strengthen disaster preparedness mechanisms in the city.

Navi Mumbai Metro Line-1 conducts a drill simulating a hijack and bomb threat

Earlier last week, security agencies and metro authorities pulled off a massive emergency security drill at the Central Park Metro Station on Navi Mumbai Metro Line-1 (Belapur-Pendhar) on Wednesday, simulating a high-stakes “Station Hijacking and Bomb Threat” scenario.

The drill, conducted on May 20, was designed to test the real-time readiness, evacuation speed, and tactical coordination between multiple security and civil agencies during a major security crisis.

Tactical response and evacuation tested

The simulated crisis involved an unauthorised takeover of the station by hostile elements alongside a suspected explosive threat on the premises. As soon as the emergency protocols were triggered, metro staff and security personnel immediately swung into action to isolate the station and begin passenger evacuation.
