Maharashtra is set to strengthen its position as a global manufacturing and engineering hub with Aggreko India announcing an investment of nearly Rs 400 crore in Pune, a move expected to generate over 1,000 direct jobs over the next decade.
As per the official statement, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Maharashtra government and Aggreko India in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the state government would provide Aggreko with an enabling operational environment along with all necessary support to ensure the project’s timely execution.
Fadnavis said, “Pune is rapidly emerging as a major hub for Global Capability Centres (GCCs), and we warmly welcome Aggreko to what is now becoming the GCC capital of India.”
The Chief Minister further added that the Maharashtra Government would extend full cooperation to the company in securing permits, registrations, approvals, incentives, and other administrative clearances in line with existing state policies.
Under the agreement, Aggreko will establish a state-of-the-art Global Engineering and Manufacturing Centre at Phulgaon in Pune district, with construction expected to begin later this year. The facility is set to become the company’s largest global engineering and manufacturing centre outside Scotland.
A boost to Maharashtra`s industrial ecosystem
The project is expected to significantly boost Maharashtra’s industrial ecosystem by strengthening local supply chains and enabling Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to integrate with global manufacturing networks.
Officials further stated that the investment would further enhance the state’s capabilities in advanced manufacturing, energy equipment production, and precision engineering.
Aggreko, a global leader in energy and temperature control solutions, has also committed to focusing on energy-efficient and sustainable technologies. The company plans to support initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions, improving energy efficiency across sectors, and strengthening climate resilience.
The company has further pledged support for Maharashtra’s Climate Change Action Plan by promoting sustainable energy and temperature control systems aligned with the state’s long-term environmental goals.
Along with the Chief Minister, other senior officials were also present at the event, including Additional Chief Secretary Lokesh Chandra, Industries Department Principal Secretary Dr P. Anbalagan, Investment Advisor Kaustubh Dhawse, Aggreko India Director Sunny Thakrar, Group Head Stephen Rea, Managing Director Rahul Khare, Head of Procurement and Global Supply Sunil Deshmukh, Trade Advisor Mark Birrell, and Senior Trade Advisor Pratiksha Kshirsagar.
