Pati Patni Aur Woh Do has opened to mixed but largely entertaining reactions, describing the Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan starrer as a lighthearted romantic comedy packed with confusion, chaos, and humour. Directed by Mudassar Aziz, the film serves as a spiritual sequel to the 2019 hit Pati Patni Aur Woh and features an ensemble cast including Wamiqa Gabbi, Rakul Preet Singh, Vijay Raaz, and Tigmanshu Dhulia.
What keeps the audience hooked?
The film generated strong buzz before release because of its quirky trailer, chartbuster songs, and the fresh pairing of Ayushmann and Sara. The comedy entertainer had the potential to become one of the season’s major theatrical crowd-pullers. However, the film has garnered mixed reactions for its performances, storyline, and most importantly, comic timing. Ayushmann Khurrana barely manages to keep his accent intact while still delivering an entertaining comic performance. Sara Ali Khan steals the spotlight by building up the confusion that drives the plot forward. Rakul Preet Singh’s efforts to stay true to the accent as Nilofer Khan are slightly noticeable. Wamiqa Gabbi plays the ambitious wife who ends up investigating her husband’s scandal.
What works and falters for the film
The movie revolves around misunderstandings, lies, and complicated relationships that spiral into hilarious situations. Director Mudassar Aziz appears to continue his signature style of situational comedies filled with emotional confusion and exaggerated chaos. While the storyline occasionally feels predictable and loud, the brisk pacing and humorous sequences help maintain audience interest. One interesting element that keeps the audience hooked is the comedy references to hit films. Viewers will surely spot references to Tere Naam, Dream Girl, Deol brothers and many more.
What falters for the film is its stretchy introduction and predictable relationship drama. Ayushmann Khurrana`s performance seems more easy and repetitive with similar sketches from his former performance in Bareily Ki Barfi. Vishal Vashishtha`s character Sunny fails to showcase its best potential, while Tigmanshu Dhulia and Vijay Raaz hold on to the comedy. Overall, the film is a fun one time watch, amid the recent comedy films attempting to keep their audience on seats with good laugh moments. Don`t miss out on the major `Welcome` reference in the film.
