Sangeeta Phogat, one of the well-known Phogat sisters, joined Rise and Fall to show off her versatility outside of the ring. However, just before the finale, Sangeeta made the difficult decision to withdraw from the competition, not due to performance or elimination, but due to the untimely death of her father-in-law. Despite her abrupt exit, fans and fellow candidates alike expressed empathy and support during this difficult period.
Sangeeta Phogat breaks down in tears
According to News24, Sangeeta Phogat`s father-in-law died on September 11, 2025. The news broke when her husband, Bajrang Punia, posted a moving tribute on social media. He wrote: “Bapuji is no more with us. He took his last breath today at 6:30 pm (as translated).” The post further read, “They had brought us this far with great effort. They were the backbone of our whole family. Can`t understand what life would be like without them.”
Sangeeta Phogat was notified of the news during the show. The Indian wrestler was spotted crying as everyone asked her, “Kya Hua?” As she broke the devastating news to the castmates, Aarush stated, “Kaafi bura laga ki Sangeeta ji ki jab news aayi thi…unhe ghar jana padta hai.” He also stated that Sangeeta was a good player in the show `Rise and Fall.`
In the episode, all of the participants on the Workers team were troubled and concerned. On the other hand, when Pawan Singh learned about Sangeeta`s sudden departure from the show, he asked the producers to allow him to see the other candidates from the Workers team since he was concerned about them. Pawan and Nayandeep were then allowed to go to the basement. Pawan hugged all the workers and tried to lighten the situation after Sangeeta`s sudden exit.
Sangeeta Phogat is married to Bajrang Punia. His father, Balwan Singh, was a wrestler. He was also a wrestling icon for Bajrang when he was younger.
