Mumbai Metro Aqua Line 3 records 1.64 lakh ridership on October 13

The Mumbai Metro Aqua Line 3, also known as the Colaba–Bandra–SEEPZ corridor, continues to witness a steady rise in daily passenger numbers. On October 13, the metro line recorded a total ridership of 1,64,877 commuters, reflecting growing public confidence and dependence on the newly launched route, according to MMRC.

According to data shared by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), the Aqua Line’s average weekday ridership has seen consistent growth since its initial operations began earlier this year. The increasing commuter turnout indicates that the underground metro corridor is gradually becoming one of the city’s preferred modes of transport, especially for office-goers and daily travellers seeking to avoid Mumbai’s surface traffic congestion.

The Mumbai Metro Aqua Line 3, often referred to as Mumbai’s first fully underground metro route, connects key business districts, residential zones, and transit points, including Colaba, Bandra, and SEEPZ. The corridor is designed to ease pressure on the city’s overburdened road and rail networks, offering faster, more efficient, and eco-friendly connectivity across South and North Mumbai.

The Mumbai Metro Aqua Line 3 project, spanning approximately 33.5 kilometres with 27 stations, represents one of the largest urban transport infrastructure developments in Mumbai’s history.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has launched WhatsApp-based ticketing for commuters of Metro Line 3, also known as Aqua Line, between Cuffe Parade in south Mumbai and Aarey JVLR in the north-western part of the metropolis.

Passengers will have to simply send “Hi” to +91 98730 16836 or scan the QR code displayed at stations to generate QR-based Whatsapp tickets instantly through a simple conversational interface, MMRC said in a release issued on Monday.

“The service allows commuters to generate up to six QR tickets in one transaction, supports multiple payment options, and eliminates paper tickets, thereby promoting sustainable mobility. The UPI-based payments will have no additional fee, while minimal charges will be applicable for card transactions,” it said.

Last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Mumbai One mobile application for integrated ticketing of metro, public transport buses, and suburban railways in Mumbai`s metropolitan region. He had also launched the final phase of the 33.5-kilometre Metro Line 3.
