Creative collaboration! Hansal Mehta, Lijo Jose Pellissery, AR Rahman join hands

A landmark collaboration is set to enrich the Indian film landscape. True Story Films and Amen Movie Monastery have announced an upcoming feature directed by acclaimed filmmaker Lijo Jose Pellissery, with an original score and songs composed by Academy Award-winner A.R. Rahman. Penned by Karan Vyas and Pellissery, the film promises to be a lyrical exploration of love, longing, and the fragile complexities of human connection.

Widely regarded as one of the boldest and most inventive voices in Indian cinema, Pellissery has earned international recognition for his visually daring and narratively audacious films. With this project, he turns his gaze to romance, promising an intimate yet expansive cinematic journey. Joining him is music legend Rahman, whose timeless compositions continue to transcend borders and generations. His ability to weave evocative melodies with immersive soundscapes positions the film as both a visceral and lyrical experience — a musical ode to romance itself.

Casting for the film is currently underway.

“To bring together Lijo Jose Pellissery and A.R. Rahman for this film feels nothing short of momentous. We look forward to beginning production later this year and sharing the magic that Lijo and ARR, along with a stellar team, will bring to audiences,” said Sahil Saigal, Partner at True Story Films.

“Lijo is a revelation to cinema. Working with Hansal has been a delight, and I’m eager to see what the three of us create together,” added A.R. Rahman.

About Lijo Jose Pellissery`s filmography

He is one of the most distinct voices in filmmaking in Kerala. He began his filmmaking journey with the 2010 film Nayakan. He made his third film in 2013 titled Amen which had Indrajith Sukumaran, Fahad Fasil, Swathi Reddy and Kalabhavan Mani in the lead roles, and the movie succeeded at the box office while drawing good critical response. After a gap of almost two years, Pellissery released his fourth film, Double Barrel, a comic thriller, with Prithviraj Sukumaran, Indrajith Sukumaran.  However, the film did not succeed critically or commercially. The next project, Angamaly Diaries, a black comedy cloaked in a gangster plot that revolves around the locale of Angamaly. The film brought attention on Pellissery`s work and was widely spoken about. His next film Jallikattu was equally spoken about and found an audience even outside Kerala.
