California`s `Butt Lady` convicted of murder

According to a New York Post report, 55-year-old Libby Adame, popularly known as the `Butt Lady`, has been convicted of second-degree murder and practising medicine without a license in connection with 58-year-old Santangelo`s death. Prosecutors claimed that an embolism was allegedly caused by a silicone injection, which is believed to be the direct cause of her death. Santangelo, a mother of two, passed away on March 24 after she was rushed from her Malibu home to a Ventura County hospital.

On the other hand, Adame’s attorney argued that she did not have time to perform the procedure and went on to criticise investigators for linking Santangelo’s death to her without any thorough investigation. The conviction comes after Adame was on probation for a previous involuntary manslaughter case. For the uninitiated, her buttocks injections resulted in the death of 26-year-old Karissa Rajpaul in Sherman Oaks back in 2016.

In Karissa`s case, Adame and her daughter and accomplice, Alicia Galaz, were acquitted of a serious murder charge. Adame had been sent to a four-year, four-month prison in April 2024 but was later released in under a year due to time served and electronic monitoring. Adame has been in custody following her May 12 arrest by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Her sentencing hearing is now reportedly scheduled for November 5, 2025.

Notably, second-degree murder carries a minimum sentence of 15 years, under California law, while practising medicine without a license may result in up to three years in prison. In addition to this, Adame was also found guilty of a special enhancement causing great bodily injury, which might add three to six more years to her sentence.
