​Transformer fire in Thane’s Wagle Estate doused, no injuries reported 

A fire broke out in an electrical transformer near Hindustan Hotel, Dnyaneshwar Nagar, Wagle Estate, Thane (West) in the early hours of Sunday. The incident was reported to the Disaster Management Cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation by the Pachpakhadi Fire Station.

Following the alert at around 12:45 am, police personnel, the fire brigade and Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) staff rushed to the spot. The response included one fire engine and one rescue vehicle.

MSEDCL staff first disconnected the electricity supply to ensure safety. After this, fire brigade personnel worked to control and extinguish the fire in the transformer.

The fire was completely brought under control and fully extinguished by around 1:10 am. Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported during the incident and the situation was safely handled.

Fire at Thane market kills two, injures two firefighters

In another such incident this week on Thursday, a massive fire erupted around 3:30 am at the Gaondevi Vegetable Market in Naupada, Thane West, gutting several shops in the two-storey market complex and leaving two people dead.

According to officials from the Naupada police station, the fire was first reported at around 3:43 am. Fire brigade teams and civic officials rushed to the spot soon after, but the blaze had already spread through a large portion of the market area.

The incident claimed the lives of Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) security guard Kalu Shankar Gadekar (55) and fire station officer Sagar Suryakant Shinde (42). Two other fire department personnel also sustained injuries.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire. Police and civic teams are also carrying out restoration and relief work at the site.

Following the incident, a high-level meeting was held under the direction of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, attended by Mayor Sharmila Pimpalolkar, MP Naresh Mhaske, and Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao. It was decided to provide Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh each to the injured personnel.

The administration also announced that eligible family members of the deceased will be given jobs in the Thane Municipal Corporation on compassionate grounds. In addition, all 155 affected shopkeepers will be rehabilitated at the same location by June 1.
