As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) records, on Saturday, the total water stock in the seven lakes supplying water to Mumbai stands at 7,85,492 million litres, which is 54.27 per cent of the total required stock for the season. 

Notably, the Middle Vaitarna lake recorded the highest rise in level—1.40 metres in the last 24 hours—bringing its storage to 1,21,379 ML, or 62.72 per cent of its full capacity. Other major contributors include Upper Vaitarna at 69.40 per cent (157,570 ML), Modak Sagar at 67.50 per cent (87,028 ML), and Tansa at 53.82 per cent (78,083 ML).

Bhatsa, which supplies a significant share to Mumbai’s municipal needs, is currently at 45.41per cent capacity, holding 3,25,598 ML. Vehar and Tulsi, the smaller lakes, are at 44.63 per cent and 43.15 per cent, respectively. 

Among the highest rainfall figures in the past 24 hours were reported at Tulsi (122 mm), Vehar (65 mm), and Modak Sagar (81 mm). The total rainfall recorded across all lakes for this monsoon season so far is 1,44,736.3 mm for 2024, compared to 2,60,410 mm in 2023.

Key remarks note that Upper Vaitarna’s release was stopped on June 9, 2025, the Middle Vaitarna WSCP Gate remains closed, and 578,250 ML from Bhatsa is earmarked for Mumbai’s municipal use. The Bhandup Complex, overseeing operations, recorded 47 mm rainfall today and a cumulative total of 600 mm.

Mumbai Weather Updates: Mumbai to see moderate to heavy rain, says IMD

As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai is expected to experience a generally cloudy sky with the possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall at isolated locations in the city and its suburbs. 

Gusty winds, occasionally reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph, may occur in some areas, particularly where rainfall is intense. High tide is expected at 08:23 hrs at 3.28 metres and again at 19:18 hrs at 3.19 metres, while low tide will occur at 13:59 hrs at 2.55 metres and at 02:06 hrs the next day at 1.45 metres. 

In terms of rainfall received from 08:00 hrs on July 4 to 08:00 hrs on July 5, the city recorded 9 mm, the eastern suburbs 35 mm, and the western suburbs 34 mm. Residents are advised to remain cautious and stay informed, especially in flood-prone and low-lying areas.
