Darkness descends on Marol as residents fume over prolonged power cuts

Residents of Church Road in Marol, Andheri East, have raised strong objections to recurring and prolonged power outages that have disrupted daily life over the past several months. The latest incidents, including a major power failure on the night of May 22 and another outage on the morning of May 23, have intensified public ire and calls for urgent intervention.

According to residents, the May 22 outage began at around 11 pm and continued until 3.10 am, leaving households without electricity for more than four hours. Soon, another disruption struck the area on May 23 morning, with residents being informed that power restoration could take until 4 pm.

“The outages has affected essential services and everyday activities. Water supply systems dependent on electric pumps were disrupted,” said Sachin Pereira.

“Food is going stale and constant disruptions in voltages is hampering the expensive electrical appliances,” said Grace Dmello.

The residents warned that if the issue is not resolved promptly, they will escalate the matter to regulatory authorities and explore legal remedies. “Activist Godfrey Pimenta has written a letter to the Adani Group in this matter. However, we haven’t received any response. We plan to protest outside their office on Monday,” said Pereira.

Adani Group did not respond to messages sent by Sunday mid-day.
